Chapter 148
ELIZA’S POV
I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the last piece of my disguise. I put on a paid of cargo pants and a black t shirt. A scarf was tied around my neck and lower face, concealing my identity from a distance and shielding me from the harsh wind.
The forged crest of the Dune scouts—a rusted falcon’s wing—was pinned to my collar.
It felt strange to look at myself and not see myself.
I bent, tightening my bootstraps, trying to slow the pounding in my chest.
I knew how to vanish, how to play a role, but this time the stakes were high. I had to find Isabella. One wrong move and we’re dead. In fact, we could be both dead.
“You look like someone who doesn’t belong in any kingdom at all.” A voice said.
I turned.
Alexander. He folded his arms. I could see the worry in his expression.
I straightened, lifting my scarf to my shoulders.
“That’s the point.”
He didn’t smile.
Instead, he stepped closer and opened his palm. In it was a small silver compass.
“It has light magic,” he said
