I swam towards her at once. ‘What’s wrong?’ She threw her arms around me. ‘Mummy, are there sharks here? What if a shark comes and eats us?’ I couldn’t help laughing. I tapped her nose lightly. ‘Silly girl. There’s a protective net down below. Sharks can’t get through.’ ‘Really?’ Her eyes were still wide. ‘But what if they break the net?’ ‘They won’t,’ I said. ‘And even if one tried, the staff would spot it straight away.’ She didn’t look entirely convinced. She just held onto me tighter, her little brow furrowed. Ashton checked his watch. ‘Time to get lunch.’ Minnie practically jumped at the idea of leaving the water, nodding so fast it was a wonder her head didn’t fall off. I was hungry too, so I called Mickey back in from where he’d drifted. Once we’d changed into dry clothes, we stepped out of the villa and followed the boardwalk towards the sandy beach. The waves kept rolling in, carrying soft, fine sand with them and breaking into white foam as they hit the shore. Lunch was by th
