Chapter 224 I Only Follow Orders
The phone rang twice before Tristan picked up.
"You're awake?" he asked.
"I saw what happened online," Cressida said, gripping her phone. "Thank you."
"Isn't it only natural for me to handle a little trouble for my future wife?" He chuckled on the other end.
The word "wife" was the same word Luther had used to call her. During their marriage, it had long since decayed into estrangement and mutual torment.
Luther's tone had always carried a mocking tilt of contempt. Cressida thought it wasn't a term of affection but a brand, a recurring nightmare she instinctively recoiled from.
Tristan immediately noticed her silence.
"Why aren't you saying anything?" he asked.
Before she could answer, he quickly changed the subject. "How's your ankle? Busy at work?"
The thoughtful shift eased the tight knot in Cressida's chest slightly.
"Much better. It doesn't affect work."
"Okay. Don't overdo it."
After ending the call, Cressida stared out the window, lost in thought.
