Chapter 243
Delia wasn't sure if she was crying or laughing—she wiped her face messily, gave a little head shake, and mumbled, “No, it’s really nothing…”
But Curtis didn’t buy it. “Nothing? Then why are you tearing up like this? Come on, what happened?”
As he spoke, he gently cupped her cheeks, brushing away her tears tenderly. “Your eyes are all puffy. This doesn’t look like ‘nothing’ to me.”
Sniffling, Delia said with a shaky voice, “I’m just… overwhelmed. Cassandra just told me she finally stood up to Monica. She kicked her and her dad out of the house. Can you believe that?”
She swallowed hard, eyes shining. “Cassandra’s mom passed away early, she’s always craved love and family. She would’ve never done this if her dad hadn’t really pushed her over the edge. But honestly, this needed to happen. Better now than letting them keep messing with her life.”
Curtis finally got the gist of it and gently pinched her cheek with a fond smile. “Silly. Something good happened, so why all the crying?”
