Jon's POV
Soren wouldn't meet my eyes. Instead, his gaze shifted toward the floor-to-ceiling windows of the private room. He waited until my patience was wearing thin before speaking.
"I've been trying to reach Gaius, but I couldn't get through…"
I swallowed hard, instinctively making excuses for Gaius.
"Thornehold Prison is completely isolated. Maybe… Maybe he's just dealing with something urgent…"
Seeing the look Soren gave me, I trailed off. No matter what Gaius was dealing with, radio silence for this long didn't make sense. Hell, I didn't even believe what I was saying.
Just then, Kipp, who had been standing behind Soren, stepped forward.
"Alpha, let me handle this. I'll drag Gaius back and make him answer for what he’s done," he said.
"No."
"Don't."
