Chapter 167: Arthur Carries Me
Arthur shot me a look, then pulled out his wallet and handed a hundred-dollar bill to the cashier.
A wave of embarrassment swept over me. I'd just said I was treating him, and now here he was, paying anyway. Could I be any more pathetic?
"Next time. Next time it's on me," I muttered, avoiding his eyes as I tugged on his sleeve and led him toward a nearby table.
Arthur stopped, his eyes flicking to the chair with visible distaste. I could practically see the word unsanitary flashing through his mind.
"Sit down. It's fine," I said, giving his hand a firm pull.
From the moment I dragged him into this McDonald's, his jaw had been tight, like he was enduring some kind of torture. For a man who practically lived in five-star restaurants, this had to feel like a nightmare.
I ignored his mood, unwrapped my burger, and took a huge bite. The taste wasn't anything fancy, but right now, it felt perfect. I was starving.
