Chapter 154: I Will Help You
My mom's words sliced through me like blades. Each one cut deeper than the last. I stared at her, my chest tight. I knew she resented me, but I never imagined she'd think this low of me.
I was her daughter. Did she really believe I didn't care about Kevin?
"Mom, if that's how you feel, I have nothing else to say. You don't want to see me? Fine. I'll leave."
My throat burned, but I held my chin high. I wanted her forgiveness, yes, but I wanted it to come from her heart. I wasn't going to crawl for scraps of love.
I turned and walked out before she could say another word. Something in me broke in that room, and I wasn't sure it could ever be fixed.
Her voice called after me, sharp with anger, regret, I didn't know. But I didn't stop.
By the time I stepped out of the hospital, the weight in my chest felt heavier. What would it take to make her forgive me? She knew what happened to Kevin wasn't my fault, so why was I the villain in this story? Was I the one who made him gamble?
