Chapter 93
Daniel said that different people would have different interpretations.
For Natalie, the interpretation was simple. She never got what she waited for. The light in her heart had burned brightly for five long years, day and night, because Jeffrey had never come home on time.
He'd say he was out entertaining clients, working late, or in meetings. She would wait, foolishly, until he finally appeared.
No matter how exhausted she was, she couldn't bring herself to go to bed. She'd curl up on the couch or sit on the balcony, watching the empty night with only a little lamp keeping her company.
She couldn't bear the thought of Jeffrey coming home after a long day, only to find the house empty. Among all the lights shining in the city, there had to be one for him.
Sometimes, he came home smelling of alcohol. Other times, he'd look exhausted, his expression distant and weary.
But deep down, she knew he wasn't really that busy. He just didn't want to come home. He didn't want to see her.
