Chapter 254 The Boomerang
Jeanette looked at him, genuinely stunned. "Mr. Ashford, are you joking?"
William shook his head. "I'm not."
The hint of a smile on Jeanette's face froze. It looked like she might refuse him at any second.
William gave a quiet, bitter laugh to himself before he spoke. "Jeanette, I asked the family doctor a few days ago. He said Grandma's condition is getting worse, and she can't handle much stress. If she finds out we're getting divorced, she probably won't survive it."
The moment he mentioned Cordelia, Jeanette's stance softened.
She knew how serious Cordelia's condition was, and she knew William wasn't lying about that. But what did that have to do with not getting divorced? They could keep it from her.
William kept his expression steady as he lied without blinking. "These days, Grandma has been pushing me to win you back. She wants you to move into the Ashford Manor again. Jeanette, I can't keep dodging her anymore. That's why I'm asking you."
He lowered himself even further.
